United in Our Fight Against Malaria

Hello everyone,

April 25th is World Malaria Day and I am excited to present an opportunity for our organization to participate in the United Nations’ United to Beat Malaria (formally Known as (Nothing But Nets) 5K virtual walk.

Why should we get involved?

According to WHO’s  2022 World Malaria report, Nigeria accounts for 31.3% of Malaria deaths world wide. About 10 persons die every hour in Nigeria due to Malaria or malaria related issues. Children under 5yrs old account for over 67% of all malaria deaths. Malaria remains a major cause of absence from school and low productivity. Malaria causes 11% of maternal deaths in Nigeria, and complicates 8.4% to 58.1% of pregnancies in Nigeria.

Our vision is a healthier Nigeria in a Healthier world. Supporting the UN in their quest to rid the world  of Malaria supports our vision. United to beat malaria, a branch of the United Nations, is at the forefront of the United States  malaria initiative. The United States increased their budget for the malaria initiative from 822 million dollars in 2013 to 1 billion dollars in 2023. Nigeria accounts for the highest incidence and prevalence of malaria in the world and we, Nigerian physicians in the United States should be part of the malaria conversation in United States.

Please join the “DNPT National Team” to support United to Beat Malaria in their fund raising effort  because their cause not only supports our vision of a healthier Nigeria in a healthier world but give a real chance of ridding the world of a disease linked to increased burden of poverty, ill health and death.
